The Core Loop
Every transformation runs the same shape:
- Current — see where you actually are, with brutal honesty
- Desired — define what you want, with precision and feeling
- Actions — build the bridge from current to desired
- Results — know the score, measure progress, adapt
This is the Genius cycle. It repeats. Each completion feeds the next. The game makes this loop visible, structured, and playable.
The brand sentence: Start something you actually mean. Focus until it has shape. Finish so the result becomes new ground.
The four states above are reference points. The work happens in the three transitions between them — see "Three Generative Moves" below.
Engineering note — internally this loop is referred to by its acronym CDAR. Player-facing copy uses "Genius cycle" + the named verbs (Starting / Focusing / Finishing).
The Four Phases
Current: Diagnose Reality
Surface unprocessed reality into conscious awareness. No sugar-coating. The pain of honest assessment is the fuel — processing stored truths frees the energy locked in avoidance.
The question: Where do I actually stand right now?
Desired: Define the Ideal Scene
The sweet spot between excitement and belief. Too ambitious and the prefrontal cortex disengages (impossible). Too modest and there's no energy (boring). The ideal scene activates real motivation.
The question: What does success look like, specifically?
Actions: Build the Bridge
Convert vision into movement. Break the gap between Current and Desired into concrete steps. Each action is a micro-experiment that produces data for the next iteration.
The question: What specific actions close the gap?
Results: Know the Score
Prevent re-accumulation of unprocessed reality. Honest measurement keeps you current. What worked? What didn't? What's next? This phase feeds directly back into the next Current assessment.
The question: What actually happened, and what does it mean?
Three Generative Moves
The states above are where you stand. The moves below are where the work happens. Connecting four states linearly produces exactly three transitions — and three is the smallest stable structure. Each move is its own kind of generative act:
| Move | Transition | Inner faculty | What it generates |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starting | Current → Desired | Mind (conceive) | a real vision of what isn't yet but could be |
| Focusing | Desired → Actions | Heart (believe) | the bridge from vision to concrete next step |
| Finishing | Actions → Results | Might (achieve) | new ground from what just happened |
Three transitions × four states = the smallest stable transformation engine.
This is the same shape that cognitive science calls active inference — every conscious system runs a "generative model" that predicts → acts → updates. The technical literature literally uses gen-rooted vocabulary for what every brain is doing. The Genius cycle isn't a metaphor borrowed from spirituality; it's the operating principle of any self-organizing system, expressed in plain language.
When the Cycle Stalls (Stuck Modes)
Each transition is also a failure mode. If a move fails, the cycle doesn't complete — and an open cycle becomes the noise that drowns out the next loop's signal.
| Stuck mode | What it feels like | Where the help lives |
|---|---|---|
| Stuck Starting | "I don't know what I want." Numbness, fear of wanting, vague vision. | Slow down. See Current honestly. Don't manufacture Desired prematurely. |
| Stuck Focusing | Vision exists but won't operationalize. Decision paralysis, perfectionism. | Pick. Smallest doable Action. One. Now. |
| Stuck Finishing | Action without learning. Won't measure. Can't accept results. | Slow down. Witness Result. Make meaning. Then generate new Current. |
Diagnose by transition, not by state. When you're stuck, the question isn't where are you? — it's which move is failing?
What Makes Genius Different
The Genius cycle is functionally similar to other planning frameworks (PDCA, OKRs, SMART goals). What makes it different in Avolve:
- Transreality tracking — the game tracks real-world actions, not just in-app clicks. Self-reported + peer-validated.
- Fractal application — the same loop applies to a single goal, a daily practice, a weekly cycle, a quarterly review, or a civilizational arc.
- Game mechanics — XP, streaks, progression tiers, and social accountability make the loop engaging over time.
- AI amplification — at every phase, AI tools can sharpen Current assessment, expand Desired possibility, suggest more leveraged Actions, and accelerate Results measurement.
Genius in Practice
Individual (Mode 1: Participate)
You run Genius on your own life. Personal Success Puzzle (health, wealth, peace) and Business Success Puzzle (front-stage, back-stage, profit). The genius_entries table stores each loop.
Collective (Mode 2: Contribute)
Teams run Genius on shared goals. The same process, larger scope. Quest categories: Enhance Individuals, Advance Collectives, Balance Ecosystems.
The Genius Profile
When you sign up for Avolve, you create your character. Your starting profile comes from two original-IP systems plus an optional inherited layer — each measuring something distinct:
| System | What it measures | Anchor |
|---|---|---|
| Quartex (Tree of Love) | Your personal cycles: 12-orb position, 24-month theme rotation, 25-year life-arc quarter, color profile, and your personalized daily ON/OFF rhythm | Your birth date + birth-day-of-month |
| Sacredg (Sacred Cycles) | What the sky is doing: real moon phase, solar position, 8-fold solar year (equinoxes / solstices / cross-quarter days), 13-moon companion calendar | The actual sky (observable astronomy) |
| Inherited base-10 numerology (optional layer) | Symbolic archetypes from name + birth-date digit reductions | Pythagorean / Chaldean traditions |
The two original IPs are doing different jobs. Quartex is your personal time — your rhythm, your cycle position, your monthly orb. Sacredg is universal time — what's happening in the sky everyone shares. Both are honored without one pretending to be the other.
Your Genius Profile is a starting lens — not a verdict. The fun, personalized character it generates is meant to invite play, not box you in. Your real profile emerges from your XP behavior over time. The raw calculation data lives backstage in genius_profiles.raw_data; the user sees a clean, jargon-free character sheet.
The Quartex Personal Calendar
Quartex's deepest move: it gives you a personalized calendar layered on top of Gregorian. Gregorian dates stay (you still know it's April 25 — coordination matters). Underneath, your personal Quartex calendar tells you:
- Your day's ON/OFF rhythm — when to push, when to rest. Roughly 79% active / 21% rest, more evidence-based than the rigid 5-day workweek. Your rest day rotates based on your Quartex monthly cycle position, not fixed Saturdays.
- Your monthly anchor day — the day-of-month you were born. (Born on the 17th? Every 17th is your anchor. Born on the 31st? Last day of each month, gracefully.)
- Your monthly theme — which of the 12 orbs is active this month, based on the 24-month / 2-year cycle. Year 1 is the contraction half (orbs descending, inward journey); Year 2 is the expansion half (orbs ascending, outward journey). Birth month is always Orb 1 — Connection (top of the tree).
- Your 25-year arc position — life unfolds in four 25-year quarters (childhood, parenthood, grandparenthood, great-grandparenthood — each a Hero's Journey at its own scale). Currently at year N of cycle M.
This is a calendar tuned to you, not the empire's. Standard Gregorian pretends the same Mondays, the same year-start, the same 5-day work week fits everyone — it doesn't. Quartex acknowledges that the universe is doing one thing (sun + moon are universal — that's Sacredg) AND that your individual rhythm is its own thing (that's Quartex). Both true. Both honored.
