The Thesis
Every action in the world creates, maintains, or destroys value. This maps cleanly to game theory:

Positive sum is the operating principle of Avolve. Every action in the game should grow the pie.
GEN + I + U(S)
The word Genius encodes the thesis:
- Generative (GEN) = thesis — creating new value
- Degenerative (DEGEN) = antithesis — destroying or extracting value
- Regenerative (REGEN) = synthesis — creating value that compounds and renews
Genius = GEN + I + U(S) — generative + I (individual) + you/us (collective).
The Bell Curve Is Shifting
As anticivilization structures collapse, people adopt regen mentality. Each adopter makes positive-sum more viable for the next. This is itself positive-sum — the domino effect.
The "flippening" is the tipping point where regenerative value creation overtakes degenerative value destruction. Every individual who moves from degen to regen shifts the center of gravity.
Four Regen Archetypes
People operating with regen mentality tend to share four characteristics:
- Self-leader — takes responsibility for their own outcomes
- Integrated thinker — connects across domains rather than siloing
- Value creator — produces more than consumes
- Superachiever — uses human intelligence + AI tools to build real things
Game Design Implications
Avolve enforces positive-sum dynamics through its mechanics:
- Invitation-only growth — no spam, no bots, no extractive acquisition
- Points for contributing — giving is tracked and rewarded
- Partnership dynamics — collaboration is designed into progression
- Puzzle pieces that connect — your success puzzle fits into the superpuzzle
- Regen score —
organizations.regen_score(0.0–1.0) measures whether a collective is playing positive-sum, computed from peer validation, mentoring, and forking signals
Escape and Arrival
The Genius loop (Current → Desired → Actions → Results) is an escape/arrival cycle:

At civilization scale: escaping the pains of the anticivilization (degen, zero-sum, value destruction) and arriving at the gains of the Supercivilization (regen, positive-sum, value creation).
What This Is Not
This game theory framing is used as a values framework, not as formal mathematical game theory. Real-world interactions rarely fit clean sum-game categories. The framework clarifies the intention behind design decisions — build systems where participants benefit from each other's success rather than competing for fixed resources.
